the kind of fear president obama talked about today. trying to make people think, oh, my god, they're coming for my gun. and what happens is a lot of americans buy more of the guns and more ammunition, so it spirals on. why can't you see the plane analogy that you brought up as the perfect example of what you should be doing, which is dealing with the chicken and not all the eggs? the chicken is the gun. the gun situation in america, to many people, seems increasingly ridiculous, where a young, deranged man could very easily access an ar-15 assault weapon and take a magazine with 100 bullets and commit mass murder. the last four shootings in america have involved that specific weapon. and have led to complete carnage. it's that that people want to remove. it's not regular guns, handguns, or pistols. what is your answer for that. >> first of all, guns are prohibited in the airplane. they're also prohibited in the school. what we've got to make sure is somebody who violates the law, that children are still protected. that's why we have federal air marshals on airplanes and that's why

left-leaning press today they talk about how -- what the republicans did to president obama in 2011 and what they're trying to do with the debt ceiling, namely attach conditions it their willingness to raise our credit limit by saying you've got to cut the spending otherwise we're not going to do it. it's unprecedented, never done to any president prior to when the republicans did to this president in 2011. >> and first of all, it's nonsense and the funny part is, you know, we've all heard this obama-- speech from obama when he was a senator and says it's irresponsible, passing the buck, it's a crisis of leadership and all the rest. he's since disavowed that position, saying it was a political move, whatever the hell that means. and the funny upshot of that, he's basically condemning the republicans having the courage of obama's conviction, for actually being serious about what obama was just posturing about as a senator. moreover, we've attached in one form or another, it gets complicated, but we've attached conditions on increasing the debt limit ceiling, graham rudman, the bill i

defenseless! other than, you know, the guns. [ laughter ] right now, gun control talk is suddenly everywhere for reasons i don't want to get into because it undermines my position. [ laughter ] and as a result, our dear leader obama is more determined than ever to take away our guns in that he has never tried to take away our guns. [ laughter ] but last week, he appointed reich marshal biden to head up a gun safety task force that will convene a "series of meetings" and "offer recommendations--" "in an effort to build consent for action." meetings? recommendations? effort? [ laughter ] folks, that is a slippery slope to jackbooted powerpoint presentations. [ laughter ] now, fortunately, folks, there are rational voices out there, who have a reasoned response to those who want gun regulation. >> now get a gun and go after her hide! well said. and sam's not alone. standing with him is nra head wayne lapierre, who in the wake of unimaginable tragedy, put forth a simple plan to reassure our troubled nation. >> i call on congress today to act immediately to appropriate whatever is necessary to ha

obama held the final press conference of his first term in office this morning talking mostly about the debt ceiling. he announced if congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling america will go into default on its loans and we might have to say good bye to florida. an economist named paul krugman is supportive of an idea as a stopgap. he is suggesting that the treasury mint a trillion dollar county and deposit it in the federal reserve which is how "the lord of the rings" starts, isn't it? i don't know if americans could be trusted with a trillion dollar coin. 100 billion bags of doritos comes down. the treasury will not mint a trillion dollar coin. that is a shame. wouldn't it be nice to mint up nine or ten and say we're even. get this crap you made out of here and leave us alone. thank you. this is a great video. this was shot at the u.s. military academy in west point. a cadet found a mouse in his dorm room and he released a it into the wild. >> you're free. go. get on out. good luck. >> how do you feel? >> i feel relieved. that he's not going to wake me up in my bed any more crawl o

. susan sounds like more taxes are on their way. >> president obama has been speaking the entire time about balanced packages. he talked about a $4 trillion target. we have 2 1/2 trillion in the bank right now. we're looking at another 1 1/2 trillion. not all will be in taxes of the part will be in cuts and part in taxes. we can't be in place to ignore investments we need to make in infrastructure. there is report out today we could lose $3 trillion over next eight years. melissa: stephen, i'm sure you're chomping at the bit to respond to that? >> look, one thing i will say to president obama he came to office in 2008 saying he would raise taxes. he has done it. this is what the president does. this is the way that he conducted himself in office. if you look back to after he lost and you think was rebuked fairly strongly in the 2010 midterm elections, he came back and gave a state of the union, a couple months later and said, just as susan did, we need to save more because we need more money for investments of the this is the way the president governor earns. he is a tax-and-spend lib

that president obama understands that we're serious. well, i guess that would do it. we always talk about whether or not we're going to kick the can down the road. i think the mood is that we have come to the end of the road. what road? and republican congresswoman marsha blackburn of tennessee said this to msnbc's chris jansing. let me ask you if you're willing to shut the government down? >> we're looking at all the options, there is the option of government shutdown, the option of raising the debt ceiling in short-term increments. i think there is a way to avoid default if it requires shutting down portions of the government. let's look at that. >> and in his press conference, president obama quoted speaker john boehner from 2011. >> that would be a financial disaster, not only for our country but for the worldwide economy. i don't think it is a question that is even on the table. >> and the last question of his press conference, the president was asked if he may be more successful with some of the nuts you just heard from if he spent more quality time with them. >> you and your staff are too
